It is certain that we need to introduce ourselves and our research activities and aspirations to the rest of the national institutions that need radical collaboration – in all medical, agricultural, industrial, engineering, economic, and social sectors. Based on the belief in a highly qualified faculty, and starting from the large number of graduate students, the University of Khartoum must play its role. It is hoped that research will contribute to economic and social development and help solve the problems facing Sudan. It should be noted that there are reputable scientific research groups.
Therefore,
the recommendations of the University Conference came to establish a strategic framework for scientific research activities, adopting a specific policy for research that is directly linked to the country. The necessity of formulating a document, "A Strategy for Scientific Research at the University of Khartoum," arises from the need to strengthen the fundamental needs of faculty members and postgraduate students so that purposeful research emerges, aligned with "constructivism and progress," to affirm the principle of a productive and leading university.
The basic concepts of the strategy are as follows:
Research Strategy (Up-Bottom) (Departments – Mechanisms – University)
o Defining research priorities to fulfill the university's mission and serve the community.
o Identifying available research funds within the university to establish coordination and lay the groundwork for launching research.
o There is a lack of coordination efforts at the national level in Sudan – the university's national responsibility requires it to take the initiative – coordination within the university is weak, with a low level of initiative.
o Coordination between environmental disciplines to broaden horizons of ambition in light of limited resources.
o Partnerships remain individual, and the research-oriented mission—despite the existence of valuable scientific research at the university—is characterized by silence and reticence, far removed from publicity and recognition.
o Nationally. Strengthening the activities of attracting joint research projects.
Creating partnerships with relevant productive and human sectors (e.g., agriculture, energy, finance) requires a strategic planning committee to support them with scientific research plans from university units concerned with scientific research activities.
Therefore, the deans of faculties and directors of institutes are addressed to:
(1) Discuss and approve the strategy and plan for each unit concerned with scientific research (faculty/institute/center) in its research councils or scientific councils.
(2) Each plan (institute/institute/center) should identify a small number of areas (themes) under which a number of priority research projects (multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary) should be included, particularly in applied fields. Research projects that serve The issues of comprehensive development address national and regional problems and bridge productive strategic partnerships.
With the aforementioned background, the university contributed to solving community problems and meeting its needs, while ensuring the participation of a number of faculty members from the department, other departments and units, and graduate students in these projects.
(4) The necessity of formulating a "Research Strategy at the University of Khartoum" document arises to guide faculty members and postgraduate students in producing purposeful research that is both constructive and progressive, thus affirming the principle of a productive and leading university.
(5) Attention must be given to basic research because it represents a fundamental basis for applied research.
Research projects were selected that serve the issues of comprehensive development, address national and regional problems, and bridge productive strategic partnerships.
Attention must be given to fundamental research, as it represents a basic foundation for applied research – provided that it does not exceed 20% of the total research output of the unit.
